The author notes that the Catholic image of the priesthood, defined by the Council of Trent, and biblically renewed and deepened by the Second Vatican Council, fell into a deep crisis after the Council. The author shows the establishment of an office by Christ, discusses the apo &#8211; stolic succession, the universal and official priesthood, and draws conclu &#8211; sions for contemporary priests. The teachings of Benedict XVI show him as a very realistic, sensitive shepherd and a man of hope. Throughout his life, the Pope meets priests, allows them to speak, and does not avoid difficult topics. In the face of the problems of the Church, the world and specific people, including those who are called, he emphasizes humble trust in Christ and proclaims the primacy of grace, because priestly vocations and the cause they serve are the work and cause of Christ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Keywords<\/strong>: Presbyterate, priesthood, apostolic succession, Church, pope <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Streszczenie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> Celem artyku\u0142u papie\u017ca Benedykta XVI jest ukazanie istoty kap\u0142a\u0144 &#8211; stwa. Autor zauwa\u017ca, \u017ce zdefiniowany przez Sob\u00f3r Trydencki, a odno &#8211; wiony i pog\u0142\u0119biony biblijnie przez Sob\u00f3r Watyka\u0144ski II katolicki obraz kap\u0142a\u0144stwa popad\u0142 po soborze w g\u0142\u0119boki kryzys. Autor ukazuje ustano &#8211; wienie urz\u0119du przez Chrystusa, omawia sukcesj\u0119 apostolsk\u0105, powszech &#8211; ne i urz\u0119dowe kap\u0142a\u0144stwo oraz wyci\u0105ga wnioski dla wsp\u00f3\u0142czesnych pre &#8211; zbiter\u00f3w. Nauczanie Benedykta XVI ukazuje go jako my\u015bl\u0105cego bardzo realistycznie, wra\u017cliwego pasterza i cz\u0142owieka nadziei. Papie\u017c przez ca\u0142e swoje \u017cycie spotyka si\u0119 z ksi\u0119\u017cmi, pozwala im m\u00f3wi\u0107, nie unika trudnych  temat\u00f3w.
