Buddhist and Christian reasons for attitude towards life"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Piotr LOREK<br>Evangelical School of Theology in Wroc\u0142aw, Poland<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">DOI: 10.48224\/COM-207-2019-68<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This\narticle juxtaposes the main theses of living as presented at the turn of the 5<sup>th<\/sup>\nand 6<sup>th<\/sup> centuries by Bodhidharma, the first patriarch of the\nBuddhist tradition of chan (zen), included in the work attributed to him&nbsp;entitled <em>Outline\nof Practice<\/em>,&nbsp;with appropriately selected extracts from the epistolary\nlegacy of Paul of Tarsus, who lived in the 1<sup>st<\/sup> century AD and is\nconsidered a co-creator of Christian thought. First, the Buddhist concepts of\nthe non-substantiality of reality, karma and variability are analysed, as well\nas their appropriate influence on the attitude of life. Next, Christian beliefs\nabout the essence of people, being in Adam, transitoriness, imminent\nresurrection and experience of grace are discussed. These beliefs are also\ntranslated into an appropriate attitude towards life. The comparison of the\nthoughts of Bodhidharma and Paul indicates the worldview differences between\nthem, but also selected functional convergences. The work also shows the\nconvergence of life attitudes resulting from two different systems of religious\nthought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Keywords:\n<\/strong>Zen, christianity, Bodhidharma, Paul of Tarsus,\nattitude towards life<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Streszczenie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Artyku\u0142 zestawia g\u0142\u00f3wne tezy,\n\u017cyj\u0105cego na prze\u0142omie V i VI wieku n.e. pierwszego patriarchy buddyjskiej\ntradycji chan (zen) Bodhidharmy, zawarte w przypisywanym mu dziele <em>Wprowadzenie do praktyki<\/em> z wybranymi\nodpowiednio ze spu\u015bcizny epistolarnej urywkami Paw\u0142a z Tarsu, \u017cyj\u0105cego w I\nwieku n.e. i uwa\u017canego za wsp\u00f3\u0142tw\u00f3rc\u0119 my\u015bli chrze\u015bcija\u0144skiej. Analizowane s\u0105\nbuddyjskie koncepcje bezistotowo\u015bci rzeczywisto\u015bci, karmy i zmienno\u015bci oraz ich\nwp\u0142yw odpowiedni\u0105 na postaw\u0119 \u017cyciow\u0105. Nast\u0119pnie dyskutowane s\u0105 chrze\u015bcija\u0144skie\nprzekonania o istotowo\u015bci os\u00f3b, byciu w Adamie, przemijalno\u015bci, rych\u0142ego\nzmartwychwstania oraz do\u015bwiadczenia \u0142aski. Te przekonania r\u00f3wnie\u017c przek\u0142adane\ns\u0105 na odpowiedni\u0105 postaw\u0119 \u017cyciow\u0105.
